Welcome to the new eauclairebyowner.com blog. I hope to use this area to delve into the issues I deal with every day — real estate and related issues in Eau Claire, the Chippewa Valley, and Western Wisconsin. More specifically, I will often address how the Eau Claire By Owner business model is different from (and in my opinion better than) the more traditional real estate business model.

Starting this business from scratch has been trying yet extremely rewarding. The learning curve was steep at first…about a year ago I was a brand new agent and a brand new broker starting to run a business the likes of which this area had not seen before. Even my well-respected real estate attorney had to research my Exclusive Agency Listing Agreement because he had never dealt with Limited Service Listings before. I don’t think he was aware that listings could be done in a way that permitted the owner to compete with agents.
10 months and 50 listings later, it’s clear to me that I am on to something here. Clients love the massive exposure provided by the MLS and the low cost as compared to a full-service 6% listing. From day one, half of eauclairebyowner.com clients who sell their homes sell without another real estate agent.

Sure, selling by owner can be a lot of work. It isn’t for everyone. And up until now, I’ve never suggested that it is a service everyone could effectively use. But now I am forging ahead with full-service flat-fee listings. I will soon roll out a pricing structure for people who would rather pay for my services at closing. And I will also roll out a second website dedicated strictly to buyer agency.

Eau Claire is finally getting up to speed with the changes that are long overdue in the real estate industry, and I’m one of the people driving those changes. Thanks for visiting!
